M.A. Thesis

After completing all units and in-house classes, a master's thesis of about 50 pages (about 16,000 words) must be produced within four months.

The topic must be closely connected to the study modules. Great importance is placed on the correct use of methodology, the application of theoretical models, and an acceptable format. Please note that all theses have to adhere to the academic honor code. Detected cases of plagiarism will lead to failure of the M.A. Thesis.

A thesis proposal must be turned in two to three weeks before the start of the officially allotted writing period. The examination committee is constituted of three professors, one research assistance, and one student representative must review and approve the proposal before the thesis can be officially accepted into the examination round of the semester. The current head of the examination committee is Prof. Burkhard Breig of the Institute of East European Studies. The deputy head is Prof. Klaus Segbers of the Center for Global Politics.

The thesis is appraised and graded by two supervisors entitled to examine students. For further information on the M.A. Thesis, please consult the examination regulation.
