Welcome to the Graduate School of Global Politics!

The Center for Global Politics (CGP) offers a European response to challenges and opportunities caused by globalization. In an environment of multiplying opportunities and uncertainties, the new and innovative concepts of its programs offer participants context and orientation. These progressive, but fine tuned study programs produced by international scholars and practitioners are designed to meet the growing need for lifelong learning. They provide the participants with excellent qualifications while holding on to given professional trajectories. The training of academic expertise and modern soft skills are essentials of the CGP Programs. Similarly CGP is inspired by the European experience in acknowledging differences yet institutionalizing cooperative behavior.
Mastering diversity is a major strength of the European Education and forms another core element of the CGP programs. Dynamic networks such as program groups and the place-independent alumni network provide additional support and resources. This co-operation of public, social and corporate partners empowers participants to become highly competitive members of the dynamic and demanding labor markets. The CGP is a unique place for acquiring context knowledge in an even more complex world. The study environment is up to date. Alumni activities are vibrant. CGP is a European enterprise and your gateway to finding your own way in a global world!

In this context the Center for Global Politics at Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin) has organized the first degree program for doctoral students in the social sciences in cooperation between Germany (represented by FU Berlin) and China (represented by Fudan University Shanghai). The Graduate School of Global Politics is a three-year PhD program which gives students the chance to make their time as doctoral students not only interdisciplinary but truly international. Program participants will work with academic experts from both universities, develop close relationships with their fellow PhD candidates from both China and Germany, and do research and coursework abroad during a 6-12 month stay in the partner country.

Doctoral candidates from the Graduate School of Global Politics will be able to start their academic careers with considerable experience researching, writing about, debating, and – most importantly – answering some of these pressing questions. We invite you to find out more about this unique program on the rest of our website.

The Graduate School of Global Politics is accepting applications until January 15th, 2009 for the spring term starting on April 1st, 2009.
