Module: Lost in Transformation: Comparative Area Studies

Andrey Makarychev is Professor of Government and Politics at the University of Tartu, Estonia. His research interests include Russia - EU relations, post-Soviet countries, mega-events in Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and issues of biopolitics. Previously, he had worked at the Nizhny Novgorod University (where he also got his PhD), for the Center for Security Studies & Conflict Research, ETH Zurich, and the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS), Copenhagen.

He was visiting fellow at Jagiellonian University, Cracow; Copenhagen Peace Research Institute; Baltic and East European Graduate School, Sodertorn Hogskola (Sweden); Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies (Washington, D.C.); Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities, Wassenaar (NIAS); George Mason University, Fairfax, VA; JFK Institute for North American Studies, Freie Universität Berlin, and other research institutions. His projects were supported e.g. by Central European University, Budapest; IREX; McArthur Foundation; OSI; NATO Democratic Institutions Fellowship Program.
