IR Online Project Director

Prof. Dr. Klaus Segbers holds the Chair of Political Science at the Institute for East European Studies and is professor for International Relations at the Otto-Suhr-Institute for Political Science (OSI) at FU Berlin. His academic expertise extends to the areas of Foreign Policy Analysis and International Relations, in particular International Political Economy and issues of Globalization. Furthermore, he focuses on designing innovative concepts of knowledge-building and transfer, including the development of e-education and blended learning programs in international contexts. Program Coordinator

Kristina Klinkforth studied Political Science and International Relations in Hamburg, Galway and Berlin. In 2005, she joined the Center for Global Politics at Freie Universität Berlin and has been responsible for the development and coordination of the distance learning M.A. program "International Relations Online" as well as for the coordination of workshops and summer schools with partner universities in the Gulf region and Syria. Kristina worked for different governmental and civil society organizations including the Aspen Institute Berlin, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the UN Headquarters in New York. She is a doctoral candidate with Freie Universität Berlin. In 2008-2009, she was a visiting research scholar with the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University. Her research focus rests on the role of the media and information technologies in international affairs and global governance. She also focuses on the role of new media in education and development.

Student Advisor

Katrin Risch studied Political Science and English Literature and Culture at the University of Magdeburg and the University of Surrey Roehampton in London. During her studies, she worked in the German Bundestag as well as the Consulate General of the United States of America. After graduating, she worked as a tutor for the program German Studies Russia, teaching the module Media and International Politics at the Moscow State University for International Relations.

IT Manager

Stefan Hohenberger studied Political Science. His diploma thesis dealt with the impact of information technology on labor markets and employment structures in the European Union. He has worked as IT specialist on several scientific projects and is now in charge of the technical implementation and design of the International Relations Online program.

Kirstin Frohnapfel (student assistant) is studying an M.A. in East European Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. She graduated with a Diploma in Political Sciences from Goethe-Universität Frankfurt a.M. in fall 2007.


Lukas Hakelberg (student assistant) is pursuing a double Master's degree in European Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin and Sciences Po Paris. He completed the French-German undergraduate program of Sciences Po Paris in June 2008 and spent an Erasmus semester at Galatasaray University in Istanbul in 2007.


Constanze Schultze (student assistant) is majoring in Political Science at the University of Potsdam. She also spent an Erasmus Semester at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium in 2007/2008 and is currently writing her diploma thesis.
